 Conservation Projects Info

In 2006, ECAS became more active in direct conservation work.  We partner with other organizations to improve bird habitat throughout Central Oregon and have shared projects with Oregon Natural Desert Association, Deschutes Basin Land Trust, Oregon, Natural, Resource Council, Forest Service and the City of Redmond.

One of our first projects aimed at enhancing nesting habitat for the Lewis’s Woodpecker enjoys great support from a dedicated group of volunteers including local residents and school groups [find out more

Our Kestrel Nest box program provides nesting sites for hundreds of these small raptors and a chance for people to see these fantastic birds close up for the first time in the presence of a trained birder bander [find out more ….]

We also have some work days and work projects that we carry out to improve bird habitat throughout the region.  For all this important work we rely upon volunteers and we would very much like to encourage you to join us.

WHAT: ECAS Work Party at Lower Bridge

WHEN: Saturday, April 17, 2010

TIME: 9:00 am or whatever time you can show up. We can use you for
an hour or all day.

WHAT TO BRING: You, your family, your neighbors, your lunch and
water. Good gloves are an absolute necessity. Sun screen (hey, I'm
an optimist) but dress for the weather, it is a rain or shine operation.

You might also want to bring your binoculars. There is much bird
activity right now and this is the only really reliable place in
Deschutes County to see a Bewicks Wren. He/she has been there for at
least the past month. Knowledgeable birders will be on hand to help
with bird related questions. We won't work you so hard that you
can't look around and see what a great place this is.

Any or all of the following items are needed:

Gas powered weedeaters to cut the old gnarly stalks
Hand cutters also work such as hedge trimmers or whatever you use at
home.
Digging tools such as lightweight shovels, flat edge digging tools,
or any digging implement to dig the roots
Large, lightweight rakes
Wheelbarrows. We have to haul the debris out over a fairly long trail
As many large plastic lawn debris bags as you can get your hands on.

If you don't have any of the above, come anyway, we will find a use
for you.

This is a great opportunity to make a contribution, meet folks who
are making a difference in our community and feel good about what can
be accomplished in a day.
