Birders Connect

There are ample opportunities to connect with fellow birders in Central Oregon and beyond. Check out the birding groups, email message groups, listservs, and other resources below. Each resource has its own rules and guidelines for posting and many are moderated by volunteers. It is recommended that you read through the rules and guidelines for posting before signing up.

Central Oregon Birders Online (“COBOL”)

COBOL is an email message group/listserv primarily used to report bird observations in the Central Oregon region (Crook, Deschutes, and Jefferson and other surrounding counties). Sharing information about non-commercial birding field trips, meetups, and events is also encouraged. This is a very active group with hundreds of members and frequent emails.

WhatsApp

Real-time rare bird alert messages are shared through a WhatsApp group established by resident Bend-area birders. The WhatsApp app must be downloaded to your smartphone to access this resource.

East Cascades Audubon Society Facebook Group

This private Facebook group is moderated by ECAS members and encourages local birders to socialize, share photos, and seek answers related to Central Oregon birds.

Oregon Birding Association

Oregon Birding Association is a membership-based nonprofit organization that works to serve the Oregon birding community and promote the enjoyment, knowledge, and conservation of birds through education, science, and shared birding experiences. The organization hosts events, publishes articles, and offers many resources for beginner and seasoned birders.

Oregon Birders Online (“OBOL”)

OBOL is an email message group/listserv dedicated to birding in Oregon. Information shared includes bird sightings and reports, rare bird alerts, bird behavior, and upcoming birding events in Oregon.

You can subscribe to this email message group, or you may view archives of OBOL, without subscribing, on the Freelists website.

Birding Oregon Facebook Group

This private Facebook group is open to all active birders and bird photographers wishing to share knowledge in a community setting. This is a good place to share photos.
