Perkins Peninsula Park provides good views of Fern Ridge Lake. The park is closed to vehicles in the winter, so it can be a quiet place to walk and enjoy wintering passerines while checking for birds on the mudflats and channels along the lake. In the spring, migrants sometimes “pile-up” at the northern end of the peninsula in the oaks. Osprey and Purple Martins return to nest in the spring. In summer, the park becomes crowded with picnickers and local people out for a family outing. Parking passes can be bought onsite.
