Directions

Habitat and Birds

Best time to visit is at low tide. The base of Haystack Rock is a rocky intertidal zone.

Tufted Puffins can be seen from April to August (Haystack Rock is the best place on the Oregon Coast for that species). During breeding season, Western Gulls, Pelagic Cormorants, Pigeon Guillemots, Black Oystercatchers and Common Murres can be seen well. Additionally, during summer Harlequin Ducks, Brown Pelican and sometimes Peregrine Falcon can be seen. During winter, Great Scaup and Surf Scoters can be found.
