Habitat and Birds

The main attraction is the lake itself which has various ducks and geese year round.  In winter there is a great variety of ducks and it is a good place to find Canvasback.  In spring and summer it is a good spot to find Redhead as well as many swallows and Cinnamon Teal is often there.    Green Herons can often be found along in the edges in August and September.  Sometimes in fall the water level drops enough to leave mud around the edges and this can attract shorebirds.  One can explore from the road into the adjacent Heron Lakes golf course.  Often gulls can be found there.
