Habitat and Birds

First 0.5 miles is good for Chukar and sparrows. Return to the road leading north to I-84. Check the brushy hillside on the west side of the road for Rock and Canyon Wrens. ( Used to have more birds, when stock tank still held water). Near the cliffs overlooking I-84, look for Whitethroated Swift and swallows. Columbia Plateau habitat species include Say’s Phoebe, Loggerhead Shrike, Western Kingbird, Common Poorwill, Peregrin Falcon, Horned Lark. In winter look for sparrows, shrikes, hawks and waterfowl on the Columbia River. A bird of note was a Harris’s Sparrow seen in November.
