Location

Duck Flats are two miles north of the small town of Marion, on Duckflat Road. The area is private property, and may only be viewed from the road.

 

To reach the area from I-5, take Ankeny Rd east 0.8 mi to Jefferson Rd, go south 0.5 mi and turn left on Winter Creek Rd. Go east 3.2 mi, and go left on Parrish Gap Rd 1.7 mi to Hunsaker Rd. Turn right and go east 0.6 mi to Duckflat Rd. Turn right (S) onto Duckflat, and bird the next mile, until the road crosses the railroad tracks.

Habitat and Birds

Marshy area and farmland with seasonal shallow water and a small woodlot. Waterfowl, raptors, and sparrows (winter and spring) and shorebirds (summer and fall) are the featured attractions. Western Bluebirds often perch on the power lines, and Yellow-breasted Chat and Common Yellowthroat can be found in the brushy areas along the road.
