The Fairview Wetlands is a 46-acre natural preserve located in the Fairview Industrial District, just south of Salem’s airport. It is open dawn to dusk, and features a walking trail, information signs, and opportunities to watch birds and examine plants. Pets are allowed, but must be on a leash. The area is administered by the City of Salem but is not considered a developed “park.” Check this website for more info: Fairview Wetlands, Salem, Oregon.

To reach the Wetlands, take I-5 exit 253 west towards Salem. Go south on 25th St, then west on Madrona Ave and south on Fairview Industrial Ave. The wetlands are on the south side of the street, across from the ODOT office. Parking is on the street.

Habitat and Birds

Marshy area, with small areas of grass and shrubs; perimeter trails and a boardwalk through the marsh provide access. Virginia Rail and Sora can be found here in spring, and more than 140 species have been recorded.
