Location

From Highway 101 in Newport, go east on Highway 20 for 1/2 mile.  Turn right on Southeast Moore Drive, then continue left onto SE Bay Blvd/Yaquina Bay Road.  All along this road, to Toledo, are good turnouts for birding.  Make sure you watch the time and the tides.  Low ide is not productive along this road and birding here in the evening is futile because of the glaring sun  Make sure you pull into the road leading to the big green LNG tanks (44.628912, -124.025313).  Good viewing from that road.

Go to the Oregon Birding Trail Website. Choose the Oregon Coast Birding Trail. Click on the Central Coast tab and go to section 65.

Habitat and Birds

All along this road, there are turnouts that allow you to view the bay and its birds.  Look for sea ducks, gulls, terns, grebes, loons, and other waterfowl.  Don’t just look at the water.  The wooded areas have mixed wintering passerine flocks and migrants in season.
