Location

From I-5, take Marine Drive west for about a mile and turn left (south) on N. Portland Road. Go one mile and look for a parking area.  From there walk south on the bike path, go under a railroad bridge and the path continues east about 1.7 miles.

Directions

Habitat and Birds

Take this bike path east and you will soon see the Columbia Sewage Ponds on your left. Check these for ducks and shorebirds. Continue on and you’ll see the Heron Lakes Golf Course on your left. This area has a good bunch of ponds that can hold waterfowl. Further on, you can scope the fields of the Portland International Raceway. Loafing gulls often collect here and large flocks of geese can produce an unusual sighting occasionally.  The Columbia Slough remains on your right the entire time and can hold various ducks, and in fall there can be shorebirds.
